Since 1991, he has carried out the researches on oyster’s function written in ‘the Compendium of Materia Medica ( 本草綱目 )’ in collaboration with Peking University Hospital. Recently, Dr. Watanabe has concentrated his research on antioxidant enzymes found in natural oyster populations , in particular, the antioxidant activity of Crassostrea gigas. Having focused on antioxidant activity of Crassostrea gigas , Later, he received a Ph.D. in Medicine with based on the ‘ Isolation, identification, and synthesis of a new antioxidant from Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas , ‘ which was reported the as a novel amphiphilic antioxidant in the article.
