He carried out research on the mechanisms of reproduction and bio-defense in shellfish. In 1978, he received the Encouragement Award (The Japanese Society of Fisheries Science, Tokyo, Japan). In 2002, he received the Award of Merit (The Japanese Society of Fisheries Science). In 2007, he received the Award of Merit (the Japanese Society for Aquaculture Research). 2000-2003:President of Japan Aquaculture Society. 1995-2003:Director General of the Foundation of Oyster Research Institute, Japan. 2003-2020:President and Board Chairman of the Foundation of Oyster Research Institute. 2005-the present:President of the World Oyster Society.
