Dr. Hilton is a scientist at Cawthron Institute, New Zealand. She is working a range of industry and is one of academic collaborators at the Institute. At IOS7, she gave two presentations. Especially, the presentation entitled “Progress in selective breeding for resilience to ostreid herpes virus in Crassostrea gigas in New Zealand” was a high level study where her expertise was adequately given. Thus, her presentation was highly evaluated by members of the Award selection committee.

Dr. Lebata-Ramos is a researcher at the Aquaculture department of SEAFDEC (Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center), Philippines. Her research focuses on maintaining environmental integrity through responsible aquaculture. At IOS7, she gave a presentation with an unique title of “ Why me? Because I’m single, young and more meaty”. This is a comparison on the quality of oyster culture between traditional methods and new methods. Her ambitious efforts were highly appreciated.

Investigation of the genetic structure of the Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) in Europe using a high density SNP array.
(David L.J. Vendrami, Luca Telesca and Joseph I. Hoffman.)
Mr. Vendrami is a Ph. D student at University of Bielefeld and Marie Curie Initial Training Network fellow. His research focuses on the exploitation of genetic markers to develop population genetics and population genomics. At IOS7, he gave a presentation entitled “Investigation of the genetic structure of the Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) in Europe using a high density SNP array”. It is well known that Pacific oyster is brought to France and Netherlands from Japan via Canadian west coast. Then, pacific oysters have been expanded their distribution throughout Europe, his study is how widely spread to analyze with genetic perspectives. His ambitious efforts were highly appreciated by the Award selection committee.
